What’s a margarita?
The name ‘Margarita’ is derived from the Spanish word for ‘daisy’, referring to the beautiful spring flower. Traditionally, a margarita contains three core ingredients: a deliciously strong tequila, an orange liqueur and lime juice (preferably freshly squeezed!)
Where do margaritas originate from?
Although we’re unsure exactly where the cocktail originated, it’s thought to have become popular during the prohibition era. The American government placed a ban on all alcohol sales in a bid to reduce crime and resolve long-standing social issues.
This led many to cross the border into Tijuana, Mexico, searching for the cocktails they sorely missed. During this time, many came to love the taste of authentic Mexican tequila, so our love for the margarita was born!
Following this, margaritas made their first of many mainstream appearances in Esquire, a popular American magazine. Since the 1950s, margaritas have been cemented as one of the world’s most popular drinks.
1. The Classic Margarita
The classic margarita is an unbeatable staple that comes back time and time again.
Consisting of tequila, triple-sec orange liqueur and fresh lime juice, this homemade margarita recipe is easy to make and will vastly improve any movie night or dinner date.
